About Island Peak
Island Peak (Imja Tse) at 6,189m is the most popular climbing peak in Nepal and an excellent introduction to high-altitude mountaineering. Named by Eric Shipton's 1953 expedition because it resembles an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche, the peak requires basic mountaineering skills including crampon use, fixed rope climbing, and glacier travel. The summit rewards climbers with an extraordinary 360-degree view of Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, and Ama Dablam. The climb is typically combined with the Everest Base Camp trek.
