About Barahakshetra
Barahakshetra (Baraha Chhetra) is one of Nepal's most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites, located at the confluence of the Koshi and Sunkoshi rivers in the Sunsari district. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu appeared here in his Varaha (boar) avatar to rescue the earth goddess from the demon Hiranyaksha. The main Baraha Temple dates back centuries and is surrounded by numerous smaller shrines. The site is especially significant during Makar Sankranti and Bala Chaturdashi festivals when large numbers of devotees gather for ritual bathing at the sacred confluence.
