About Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is Nepal's only hunting reserve, established in 1987 in the rugged Dhaulagiri region of western Nepal. Covering 1,325 sq km of steep mountainous terrain between 2,000m and 7,000m, the reserve is home to blue sheep (bharal), Himalayan tahr, ghoral, serow, and pheasants including the colorful Danphe (national bird). Regulated sport hunting of blue sheep is permitted in designated blocks. For non-hunters, Dhorpatan offers spectacular trekking through remote, wild landscapes with views of the Dhaulagiri range and virtually no other tourists.
