About Khokana
Khokana is one of the oldest villages in the Kathmandu Valley, a living example of a traditional Newar agricultural community that has changed little over centuries. Known as the 'village of mustard oil,' Khokana has been producing mustard oil using traditional methods for over a thousand years. The Rudrayani Temple (Shekali Mai) in the village center is a significant religious site. Khokana, along with neighboring Bungamati, is on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage list. The village's brick-paved streets, ancient ponds, and traditional farming practices offer an authentic glimpse into Newar rural life.
