About Kirtipur
Kirtipur is an ancient Newar city perched on a twin hillock just 5 km southwest of central Kathmandu. One of the oldest settlements in the Kathmandu Valley, it was the last stronghold to fall during Prithvi Narayan Shah's unification campaign. Today, Kirtipur retains its medieval charm with narrow brick-paved lanes, centuries-old temples, and traditional Newari homes. The Bagh Bhairav Temple and Uma Maheshwar Temple are major landmarks. The town offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and is famous for its Newari cuisine.
