About Mai Pokhari
Mai Pokhari is a beautiful crescent-shaped lake at 2,155m in the Ilam district of eastern Nepal, designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. The lake is sacred to both Hindus and Kirat people and is surrounded by dense temperate forest of rhododendron, oak, and birch. The area is excellent for birdwatching with over 300 species recorded. During Bala Chaturdashi festival, thousands of devotees visit to offer seeds around the lake. The surrounding hills offer pleasant walks through tea gardens, cardamom fields, and forests with views of the Kanchenjunga range.
