About Tribhuvan International Airport
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) is Nepal's only international airport in Kathmandu and the main gateway for visitors to the country. Named after King Tribhuvan, who helped end the Rana autocracy, the airport handles flights to major Asian and Middle Eastern cities. The airport sits at 1,338m elevation in the eastern part of the Kathmandu Valley, famously surrounded by hills that make for one of the world's most scenic and challenging approaches. The domestic terminal connects Kathmandu to remote mountain airstrips like Lukla, Jomsom, and Simikot.
