Steamed dumplings served in spicy sesame and tomato soup

Ingredients

  • For Momos:
  • - Use any momo recipe (chicken, buff, or vegetable)
  • For Jhol (Soup):
  • - 2 cups tomatoes, chopped
  • - 1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted
  • - 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • - 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • - 2 dried red chilies
  • - 1/2 teaspoon timur
  • - 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • - 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • - 2 cups water or broth
  • - 2 tablespoons oil
  • - Salt to taste
  • - Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

    Prepare and steam momos according to your preferred recipe.

    For jhol: Toast sesame seeds until golden. Grind with timur into a powder.

    Heat oil, fry dried chilies until dark. Add ginger, garlic, turmeric and cumin. Saute for 30 seconds.

    Add tomatoes and cook until soft. Add water/broth and sesame-timur powder.

    Simmer for 10 minutes. Adjust seasoning.

    Place steamed momos in a bowl, pour hot jhol over them.

    Garnish with cilantro and serve immediately.
