Jhol Momo
Momo Recipe
Steamed dumplings served in spicy sesame and tomato soup
Ingredients
- For Momos:
- - Use any momo recipe (chicken, buff, or vegetable)
- For Jhol (Soup):
- - 2 cups tomatoes, chopped
- - 1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted
- - 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- - 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- - 2 dried red chilies
- - 1/2 teaspoon timur
- - 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- - 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- - 2 cups water or broth
- - 2 tablespoons oil
- - Salt to taste
- - Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions

1Prepare and steam momos according to your preferred recipe.

2For jhol: Toast sesame seeds until golden. Grind with timur into a powder.

3Heat oil, fry dried chilies until dark. Add ginger, garlic, turmeric and cumin. Saute for 30 seconds.

4Add tomatoes and cook until soft. Add water/broth and sesame-timur powder.

5Simmer for 10 minutes. Adjust seasoning.

6Place steamed momos in a bowl, pour hot jhol over them.

7Garnish with cilantro and serve immediately.
