Gorkha Durbar is the historic palace fortress that served as the seat of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the small kingdoms of Nepal into a single nation in the 18th century. Perched dramatically on a hilltop at 1,135m, the palace complex includes the Gorakhnath Cave (sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists), the Kalika Temple, and an architectural masterpiece of Newari craftsmanship. The fortress offers commanding views of the Manaslu and Ganesh Himal ranges.
