Lakhamari
Dessert Recipe
Traditional Newari sweet bread - crispy outside, soft inside
Ingredients
- - 2 cups all-purpose flour
- - 1/2 cup sugar
- - 1/2 cup ghee, melted
- - 1/4 cup milk
- - 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- - 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- - Pinch of salt
- - Oil for deep frying
Instructions

1Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cardamom and salt.

2Add melted ghee and mix until crumbly.

3Add milk gradually and knead into a stiff dough.

4Divide into small balls. Flatten each into a thick disc about 3 inches wide.

5Make decorative patterns on top using a fork or mold.

6Heat oil to medium temperature.

7Fry lakhamari on low-medium heat until golden brown on both sides. They should puff up slightly.

8Drain on paper towels.

9Store in airtight container. Traditionally given as gifts during festivals.
